Linda Hamilton is joining the cast of “Stranger Things” Season 5, adding another genre icon to the Netflix series’ ensemble cast for its final season. Details weren’t revealed on the “Terminator” actress’ role in the series, but she joins the likes of Paul Reiser (“Aliens”) and Sean Astin (“The Goonies”) on the show, which essentially re-creates the 1980s series. A love letter to cinema.
Season 5 of the popular science-fiction fantasy series halted development (it had not yet begun production) in solidarity with the WGA writers’ strike earlier this year. Season 4 was released in 2022 in two parts.
Many questions were left unanswered at the end of the Duffer brothers’ final season, such as the fate of Max (Sadie Sink) and how Eleven might stack up against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) with her returned powers.
Vecna’s identity was fully explained by the dark creature, originally Henry Creel, or One, to Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) previously conducted experiments on the child to stimulate psionic abilities. Henry, who had been visited by Peter Ballard in Hawking’s lab when he helped Eleven strengthen her own telekinesis, already had the ability to move things with her mind before Brenner discovered it.
It was Eleven who sent her to the Upside Down to become the slimy Vecna, who reordered and controlled the realm of her many tentacles.
Since the end of Season 4, the Duffer brothers have announced several new projects under their shingle, Upside Down Pictures, which they plan to launch in July 2022. The slate includes a live-action spinoff of “Stranger Things,” a Curtis Gwinn-led adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s “The Talisman” and a British drama set within the world of “Stranger Things.”
The brothers will also lead the adaptation of the Japanese manga/anime “Death Note”. An animated spinoff of “Stranger Things” has also been announced, as well as “The Burrows”, which the Duffer brothers will executive produce with showrunners Jeffrey Addis and Will Matthews.
