Paramount’s newly crowned Oscar nominee for Best Picture Top Gun: Maverick won Best Picture at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Saturday.
The Tom Cruise sequel beat out competition for the marquee award from the group, which also included other Oscar nominees in Warner Bros. elvisA24 Everything everywhere at onceUniversal/Amblins The Fabelmansfocus functions’ tar and Orion/UARs women talk as well as Sony’s The Woman King.
elvisBaz Luhrmann won Best Director and the film won Best Time Capsule, earning him the most wins on All Movie Night.
Michelle Yeoh (Everything everywhere at once) and Brendan Fraser (The whale) won the award for best actress or best actor.
In the TV categories FX’s The old man won Best TV Series, while the drama’s star, Jeff Bridges, won Best TV Actor. Emmy-winner Sheryl Lee Ralph won Best TV Actress for ABC Abbott Elementary School.
AARP, which aims to spotlight films and shows that directly appeal to audiences over 50 with its awards, also presented Jamie Lee Curtis with its Career Achievement Award tonight.
The ceremony, which will be hosted by Alan Cumming tonight, will air Feb. 17 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS. Great achievementsthe PBS website and app.
