As the fallout from Donald Trump’s second impeachment continues, the “Morning Joe” crew is still stunned that this is happening. Not because the twice-impeached former president doesn’t deserve the charges, but because he could have avoided them altogether if he had cooperated with the authorities.
During Friday’s morning discussion, MSNBC political analyst Alice Jordan joined the panel, discussing Mitt Romney’s response to the impeachment with Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. As Romney put it, “all [Trump] had to return them”—the “them” apparently referring to the hundreds of classified documents he had taken from the White House—Jordan readily agreed.
“Donald Trump looks like an idiot on this,” she said. “He had a chance, he had a do-over, he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. And at the end of the day, if you’re arguing about the referee — if you’re arguing about the DOJ and the FBI If you’re arguing with the referee – you’re losing. As with anything in life, if you’re arguing with the referee, you’re losing.”
Meanwhile, host Willie Geist lamented that Romney is often one of the only members of Trump’s party to actually speak out against his actions, though Geist, Brzezinski and Scarborough all said it seems likely that Republicans are more likely to do so. are willing.
“Why does Mitt Romney always fall for being the Republican in the Senate to criticize Donald Trump?” They said. “But, you’re seeing more of it.”
